Why the Watch Case size is a deceiving number!

Updated: Nov 16, 2021

Both watches in above photos being the Royal oak 15400 and the Submariner 126610 are marketed as 41mm cases, but there’s a catch. The sub has lug to lug of over 47.6mm whereas the Royal Oak has integrated bracelet where the bracelet flares out further beyond the case lugs and the minimum flare of the watch (due to the bracelet) takes it to over 52mm. So for all intents and purposes, you’d need a wrist width of over 48mm to pull off the submariner but on the same wrist, you won’t be able you pull off the 41mm Royal Oak, unless you dont mind the watch flaring off your wrist. To allow the 41mm Royal Oak to contour to your wrist, you’d need a minimum wrist span/width of 54mm or more.
